About Aplomb
Aplomb is a news app for iPhone and Android that shows the news as short vertical videos, using only official videos from vetted newsrooms.
Who We Are
Aplomb is built by a small independent team. We are not affiliated with any of the news organizations in the app, and none of them funds us. Meet the people who review our sources on the editorial team page.
Why We Built Aplomb
Many people now get their news from short video feeds, where reporting from newsrooms sits next to commentary and unverified clips. Aplomb keeps the format and changes the content: only newsrooms that meet our six source criteria, each named on every story. We built it for people who want to keep up with the news in a few minutes a day, without giving up on where it comes from.
How Aplomb Works
The app opens on Today: the day's main stories, ranked by how many newsrooms are covering them right now, with one video each. Latest then shows every video from international newsrooms, newest first, and your country has its own tab with its national newsrooms. Each story is an official video published by a news organization on its YouTube channel, played in the official YouTube player. Under every video you see the headline, the outlet and its type, and one tap opens the outlet's website. See it on our home page or watch today's news videos.
How We Make Money
Aplomb is free and has no ads today. To keep it running in the long term, we may add a paid plan or advertising later. If we do, we will say so here first.
Aplomb has no commercial relationship with the outlets it lists. No newsroom pays to appear in the app, and none can pay for a better position or a better rating. The ratings on our source pages come from independent raters, as explained in our editorial policy.
Formerly Upright
Aplomb was called Upright until October 2026. Only the name changed: the app, the newsrooms, our methodology and every page of this site are the same, and old upright.news links lead to the matching page here. In the app stores, look for Aplomb News.
