Terms of Use

Last updated

These terms apply when you use the Aplomb app or this website. By using them, you agree to these terms.

The Service

Aplomb is a free app that shows official news videos published by news organizations on YouTube, with a link to each outlet's website. This website describes the app and publishes profiles of news sources, a media bias chart and app comparisons. Aplomb is not directed at children under 13.

Third-Party Content

Videos, headlines and articles belong to the news organizations that publish them. Videos play through YouTube; by watching them in Aplomb you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Aplomb has no commercial relationship with the outlets it lists, does not edit their content, and is not responsible for it.

Acceptable Use

You may use Aplomb for your personal, non-commercial use. Do not try to disrupt the service, access it by automated means beyond normal use, copy it to build a competing service, or use it to break the law.

Ratings and Comparisons

Bias and reliability ratings on this website are published by independent raters and reproduced with attribution and a link to the source. App comparisons describe each app from its own public information on the date shown. All of this is provided for information, and may change.

Availability and Changes

We may change, suspend or stop the app or the website at any time, for example if a video platform changes its rules. We may update these terms; the date at the top of this page shows the latest version, and continuing to use Aplomb after a change means you accept it.

Who Can Use Aplomb

Aplomb is not directed at children under 13. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using services like ours without a parent's consent, that age applies.

Data and Charts

The combined political lean and reliability positions we calculate, and our media bias chart, are available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license: you may reuse them, including commercially, if you credit Aplomb and link to the chart page. The individual ratings we cite remain the property of AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias/Fact Check, under their own terms; follow the links on each source profile before reusing them.

Intellectual Property

The Aplomb name, logo, app and the texts, charts and designs on this site belong to Aplomb. You may quote short extracts with a link to the page. Videos belong to the newsrooms that published them, and outlet names and logos belong to their owners; we show them only to identify each outlet. Bias and reliability ratings belong to the raters that publish them.

No Warranty and Limitation of Liability

Aplomb is provided free of charge and "as is", without any warranty. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app or the website, or from content published by third parties. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the app and the site change. We will change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will also tell users in the app or on this site before they apply.
