Accessibility

Last updated

We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What We Have Done

  • Text and buttons meet AA contrast ratios, and every interactive element has a visible focus state.
  • Menus work with the keyboard: Enter or Space opens a menu, arrow keys move through links, Escape closes it.
  • A "Skip to content" link is the first item on every page.
  • Every chart has a data table with the same information, such as the one under the media bias chart.
  • Videos only load when you choose to play them.

Known Limits

Videos are published by news organizations on YouTube, and their captions depend on each outlet. Our last automated audit, with Lighthouse on October 14, 2026, scored 96 to 100 for accessibility on our main pages, and we tested keyboard navigation of the menus by hand.
