Is 9News Left or Right?

It also notes that 9News reports the scientific consensus on climate change and COVID-19. AllSides and Ad Fontes Media have not rated it, so its position on our chart rests on that single rater.

Its best-known retraction came in 2022. A 9News report in March 2021 alleged that Andrew Laming, then a Liberal MP, had taken a lewd photograph of a woman; Laming sued for defamation. In September 2022, Nine dropped its defense, said it had seen material showing the photograph was not lewd, withdrew the allegations and apologized publicly.

Why 9News Is in Aplomb

9News brings Australian national and local news from the newsroom of the Nine Network, one of the country's three commercial TV networks. It meets our six source criteria. In the app, its videos appear in the Australia tab rather than in Latest, and only its Shorts are shown, so its full bulletins and current-affairs programs such as A Current Affair stay out. Media Bias/Fact Check rates it right of center, alongside ABC News Australia and SBS News, which it rates left of center. What to watch for: only one rater covers it.
