Is La Presse Left or Right?

Media Bias/Fact Check rates La Presse Left-Center, with a score of -4.2. It says the paper's story selection tends to favor the left slightly and that some headlines use emotionally loaded words, while its news reporting is well sourced, often from wire services. AllSides and Ad Fontes Media have not rated it, so its position on our chart rests on that single rater.

La Presse is a member of the Conseil de presse du Québec, the province's press council, which hears complaints from the public, and one of its rulings shows how errors are judged there. The council found that a March 2023 editorial on private ambulance companies gave incomplete information about the public money they receive. La Presse had published a correction, and the council first cleared it for that reason; in December 2024, its appeal committee found the correction inadequate and reprimanded the paper and the editorial writer. La Presse says that neither its donors nor its advertisers can intervene in its journalism.

How La Presse Handles Corrections

La Presse's standards guide says it corrects errors publicly and as soon as it learns of them: online, it edits the story or adds a note at the top or bottom. Complaints can also go to the Conseil de presse du Québec.
