Why These Outlets Are Not in Aplomb

A newsroom joins Aplomb only when it meets all six of our criteria, from a public corrections policy to a high factual rating from at least one independent rater. Each profile says, criterion by criterion, which ones are not met today. Not being in the app is not a verdict on an outlet's journalists, and we review the list every quarter.

How We Write These Profiles

  • Raters, not us. Bias and reliability come from AllSides, Ad Fontes Media and Media Bias/Fact Check, attributed and linked. The meters at the top of each profile only average their scores, with the same method as for the newsrooms in Aplomb.
  • The same questions for every outlet. Each profile follows the same outline: lean, reliability, news and opinion, ownership, record, and why it is not in Aplomb.
  • The whole record. Awards and audience come with the disputes, and every fact links to a source.
  • Corrections. If you see an error, tell us. We fix it and log the change publicly.
